Decoy Abstract

Decoy is an artist inspired by many sources, such as other artists, movies, music, and daily life. He started his artistic journey as a child, practicing by copying comic books, TV characters, album covers, and MAD Magazine. These influences still shape his art, reflected in his use of famous characters, bright colors, and bold graphic design.
In the early 2000s, Decoy adopted the name as his artistic alter ego, an identity that would come to define his body of work. The birth of "Decoy" coincided with the creation of a distinctive logo/symbol, featuring the letter "D" enclosed within a circle reminiscent of a copyright symbol. This symbol became a recurring motif, consistently interwoven into his artistic endeavors.
Decoy, during this pivotal time, delved into the world of street art, finding inspiration and influence. His artistic journey took a new trajectory as he started exploring larger canvases, skillfully blending realism with abstract elements. With a trusty combination of stencils and vibrant cans of spray paint, Decoy unleashed his creative spirit and left vivid imprints across various urban spaces.
One notable characteristic of Decoy's street art was his reverence for pop culture icons. His pieces proudly displayed legendary figures, drawing attention and evoking a sense of nostalgia. Yet, it was the horror genre that truly captivated Decoy's imagination during this period. His love for all things unsettling and chilling manifested through his art, leaving an indelible mark on his expressive output.
During the years spanning 2004 to 2008, Decoy embarked on a journey to elevate the visibility of local artists with his self-produced art publication titled "Takedown Magazine." This endeavor encapsulated his commitment to showcasing the talents of the local art community. In addition, Decoy organized and participated in art shows, while also sharing ownership of a studio/gallery.
As time progressed, the reach of Decoy's artwork expanded beyond local boundaries, with pieces finding homes in private collections across the United States and abroad. His unyielding desire to innovate and create led him to explore various artistic mediums—including music—and foster collaborations with fellow artists.
Decoy’s distinctive artistic style is exemplified by his masterful employment of vinyl stenciling, enabling him to manifest abstract concepts into realistic yet stylistic designs. His versatility shines through in his ability to effortlessly blend geometric lines in some works while seamlessly fusing multiple styles in others. Presently, Decoy's artistic focus has shifted towards employing captivating bright neon hues, intricate abstract lines, geometric shapes, and halftone dot patterns.
